Caring for the Ex-Service Community since 1916

Established in 1916, The Royal Star & Garter Charity has strong military links and traditions that make its homes a special place to live where comradeship, among the residents, staff, volunteers and others who support them, is uppermost. We believe in providing the highest possible level of care, tailored to each individual's needs and wishes, to ensure that all our residents are able to lead as independent a life as possible.

The Home at Richmond provides residential nursing care, and short breaks, for up to 60 men and women who have Served in Her Majesty's Forces, and to the widows, spouses and partners of ex-Service people.  Nursing care is of the highest standard, reflected in a recent 3-star award - the highest possible - from CSCI - the body which monitors care home standards.  The Royal Star & Garter can also provide therapeutic care and offers an unprecedented range of leisure pursuits and activities to suit all tastes.

The Royal Star & Garter Charity is in the process of building new, state-of-the-art homes, the first of which will open in Solihull in the summer of 2008.  The new Solihull Home will accommodate 60 residents, including 15 with dementia, and all residents will have large bedsitting rooms with en suite shower rooms.

Location

The Richmond Home occupies a commanding position on Richmond Hill overlooking the river Thames. The location provides fine views from many of the communal and private rooms and affords easy access to Richmond Park and the shopping and transport facilities of the town centre.

The Richmond Home:

The location provides fine views from many rooms and affords easy access to the park and the town centre. A high standard of decoration has been achieved throughout the Home and the terraces and grounds are well maintained.

The Home provides a range of communal rooms, including some suitable for hosting large events. The main dining room provides a focus for socialising at mealtimes and smaller dining rooms are situated on each floor. The Home runs a small library and has a licensed bar.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms and many bedrooms provide evidence of hobbies and interests. Residents are able to bring personal items, including furniture, with them on admission and are able to install a private telephone line should they wish.

Activities

The Royal Star & Garter Homes offer an excellent range of events and have good facilities for activities including arts, crafts, cooking, gardening and IT. The programme is delivered by a dedicated Activities& Welfare department, supplemented by a team of volunteers. Residents are encouraged to be involved in their local community and to maintain their military links if they wish.
