The Abbeyfield Haddenham Society at Stonehill house, is a residential care home for older people. It is not registered for nursing care or for the care of those suffering from dementia. The registered provider is the Abbeyfield Haddenham Society which is run by a committee of volunteers with a variety of professional skills. Whilst the Abbeyfield Haddenham Society is independent, it is affiliated to the national Society www.abbeyfield.com and conforms to its standards. It has charitable status.
Location
Haddenham is situated in a most scenic part of rural Buckinghamshire. It is 9 miles west of Aylesbury, 15 miles east of Oxford and 2 miles from Thame. It is within easy reach of the M40. There is a railway station in the village, as well as local bus services to Thame, Aylesbury and Oxford. There are also excellent local taxi services.
A wide range of shops, the village hall, library, health centre, dental practice, pharmacy and post office are all within walking distance of Stonehill House.
The Hóme
Stonehill House has 11 single bed sitting rooms, many of which are ensuite. Some ground floor accommodation has direct access to the garden and there is a lift to the first floor. To ensure a homely atmosphere residents may bring items of personal furniture. Telephones can be installed at residents' expense using the lines provided by the Society in each room. Residents at the Abbeyfield Haddenham Society have their own room and front door key.
Most rooms and all toilets and wash rooms have an alarm system to call for help. In addition each resident is loaned a personal aid call pendant. Staff are on duty seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Accommodation for relatives and friends can be arranged in the guest room at an appropriate charge. Guests can also have lunch and tea at Stonehill House, again at a nominal rate. Laundry and ironing is undertaken and rooms cleaned. We are proud of the magnificent gardens, especially designed with the elderly in mind.
Stonehill House operates a no smoking policy.
The Care
The philosophy of the Abbeyfield movement is to respect the individual and provide privacy with caring support in a family atmosphere. This is extremely important to the committee and staff at Stonehill House.
The Cuisine
All meals are provided and there is a choice of menu for lunch and the evening meal and residents' preferences are taken into account by the catering staff. In the case of temporary illness or disability staff will serve meals to residents in their room. Laundry and ironing is undertaken and rooms cleaned. We are proud of the magnificent gardens, especially designed with the elderly in mind.
The Service
The doctors and nurses at Haddenham Health Centre visit Stonehill House weekly or more often if required. Gentle exercise classes are held twice-weekly and a hairdresser and chiropodist visit regularly. Stonehill House is within easy reach of Stoke Mandeville and John Radcliffe Hospitals.
A volunteer group within the village provides lifts to elderly residents wishing to visit friends, the doctor, dentist etc or attend church services.
Haddenham is an extremely active community with numerous activities throughout the year in addition to the programme of events which take place at Stonehill House.
There are strong ties with the local churches. Clergy visit regularly and Holy Communion can be taken at Stonehill House.
The Activities
There are regular talks by visiting speakers, exercise classes, bingo and card sessions. Stonehill House is well served by the visiting library. From time to time, community groups and staff provide entertainment for the residents. Birthdays of residents are always celebrated and the Society recently enjoyed marking the 20th Anniversary of the opening of Stonehill House.
Residents are encouraged to take part in the many activities available in the village, such as WI meetings, Village Society meetings, religious services etc.
