Redlands is situated in the district of Swindon known as ''Old Town'' where many of the buildings have preservation orders on account of their architectural or historical interest. Redlands is a redbrick building at the entrance to Lawns Park, with a large garden surrounded by trees. The project is available for 18 people in single and shared bedrooms, there are also two self-contained flats, each for two people.
The project is a home for residents while they wish to be here and for as long as we are able to support them and meet their needs. The aim of Redlands is to offer care and rehabilitation in a supportive environment, which meets the particular needs of individuals, and to encourage the exercise of individual choice within a communal setting. In developing their daily-living skills and achieving a realistic level of functioning, residents may be helped to move on to more independent accommodation if they so wish.
All residents are required to contribute to the running of the house: each person is responsible for keeping his or her bedroom tidy and doing their own laundry. Residents also undertake a small weekly cleaning task, take part in the washing-up, cleaning, gardening and shopping.
Residents are encouraged to use their free time constructively, and are given support to take part in leisure activities and develop social relationships in the community.
The staff team consists of a Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, 4 Senior Social Care Workers and 3 Social Care Workers. There are also two cooks. One who provides the main evening meal, Monday to Friday and the other works on the weekends. Care staff prepare all other meals, with appropriate support from residents. A part-time Cleaner is employed to look after the communal areas. A minimum of three staff are on duty throughout the waking day, with two members of staff sleeping-in each night.
As an employer, we are keen to extend our commitment to staff development, and there will be opportunities for this, either through in-house training or approved outside courses. Staff are encouraged to work towards NVQ's in line with TOPS occupational standards.
