Paternoster House is a large two-storey purpose built establishment. Completed in 1991, this state-of-the-art care home has a reputation for being one of the best in Essex, and provides a truly warm welcome to every one of its visitors and residents.
Location
Paternoster House is located within five acres of land and surrounded by woods and an orchard on the edge of Waltham Abbey; an historic market town on the River Lea. The natural setting of Paternoster House is nevertheless minutes from the M25 bypass, three miles from Waltham Cross, which has a large shopping centre and main rail links into London.
The Home:
The home is decorated and maintained to a very high standard. The home can accommodate a total of 138 service users. There are 114 single rooms, 79 en-suite; and 12 double rooms, 10 en-suite.
The home is divided into four distinct units called Parklands, Uplands, Woodlands and Meadowlands. Care is provided to older persons requiring nursing care due to physical illness or disability, nursing care for persons with dementia and nursing care for younger adults with a physical disability.
The services
Our in-house physiotherapy for residents helps to improve the medical condition of new residents and helps to maintain our residents dignity for longer ensuring that they are kept as mobile as possible. A hairdresser visits the home each week.
The Cuisine
As with any home, the kitchen is an integral part of life at our home. Our new chef and the introduction of a ‘hostess’ service for mealtimes has ensured that residents receive individual choice and care with regard to their nutrition needs. Most of the food is now homemade and each resident’s special dietary requirements are attended to throughout the day.
Activities
We encourage as full and active a lifestyle as possible for residents. Our Activities Co-ordinators provide a range of activities including outside entertainers, gentle exercises, ball games, art and craft activities, flash cards, memory boards, opportunities to go out, that are designed to appeal to our broad cross-section of residents. Residents are also encouraged to continue their hobbies.
With many activities designed to create a fulfilling and stimulating environment, they also enhance important feelings of self-worth while supporting diminishing skills.
The Cost
Fees as at November 2006 for social services clients are £631.61 and start from £900 for private clients.
