Cornwallis court is situated in beautiful surroundings and was originally part of the West Suffolk Hospital. Cornwallis Court first opened on 17th June 1981 to provide a caring environment for freemasons and their dependants who are 60 years of age or older.
The Location
Situated within its own grounds, close to the centre of the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, this Home was redesigned and extended in 1981.
The Home
Within the grounds, there is seating, which is tastefully placed so residents can enjoy the delights of 3 beautifully established gardens and a large fishpond which is particularly full of beauty and wild life. To cater for the more energetic residents, there is a nine-hole miniature putting green.
Cornwallis Court can accommodate 74 residents in an atmosphere, which is best described as homely. We provide levels of care, dependant upon peoples assessed individual needs. The categories of care offered are, (i) Personal care (formerly
known as residential care),(ii) Nursing and (iii) Dementia. Prior to admission, an experienced member of the home or Care Advise Team will visit the prospective residents to complete an assessment of needs to ascertain which category of care is
most appropriate for the individual.
When someone moves in, it is on a trial basis. This is to make sure this is the ideal place for them. This time will be used as an opportunity for staff to get to know the individual resident and their family and will help us to identify their needs and
preferred ways of living. During this time, the resident’s care and support requirements are assessed and developed into an agreed Service User’s Plan. This will include discussion and assessment of any risk to which the resident or staff may
be exposed as a result of making their own choices and decisions. The ultimate aim is to achieve a plan of care, which meets the individual’s requirements and will form the basis of a monthly review to ensure it reflects any changes in care needs.
