Charnley House is situated approximately half a mile from Hyde town centre, while enjoying a rural aspect. Hyde offers extensive shopping facilities, a weekly market, a cinema and excellent bus and train services to neighbouring towns and Manchester. Charnley House is an Edwardian building which has been recently extended and renovated to provide excellent care and spacious accommodation for the elderly. The Home has 2 companion and 37 single rooms, 16 of which are en-suite. On admission, we suggest a 4 - 6 week trial assessment period. This enables new Residents to become accustomed to the changes in their environment and be reassured. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing their own favourite possessions. Charnley House is family owned and operated and has been providing residential care for the elderly since 1969.
Helping Residents To Feel at Home
Charnley House isn't a hospital or a hotel but where the Residents live. When a new employee starts work here for instance, we make it clear that they are coming to work in someone's home. Charnley House isn't our home, it is the Residents' home, and all our staff respect this.
The Residents as Individuals
Whatever level of care we provide for the Residents, we must remember to treat them with respect and dignity and as an important person in their own right. As individuals, they have different needs and requirements which can vary from day to day. We respect our Residents' independence and strive to do things with our Residents, not for them. We all like to be pampered but we don't confuse this with 'smothering' and remember that everyone has 'off' days. Sometimes we have to care for people who may be verbally or physically abusive, or be unpleasant in their personal habits. We try to be understanding and still respect them as individuals.
The Right of Independence
No matter how physically or mentally frail a Resident is, we help them to maintain their maximum level of independence. Care assistants strive to enable the Residents to do things for themselves, not do everything for them.
Social Calendar
Charnley House organizes an extensive range of social activities, both in the home and we encourage our residents to take part in the many trips and outings that we arrange throughout the year.
Events cover a wide range so that there is hopefully, "something for everyone". 'Movie Mornings', concerts, professional entertainers, party nights, 'Music and Reminiscence', beauty therapy and a mobile shop all take place regularly in Charnley House. Clothing Parties give everyone the opportunity to have a browse even if you don't buy. Those Residents who wish to are included and encouraged to take part in whatever activity takes their fancy! Staff are now involved in theme days, which usually involve wild and wonderful outfits, fund raising, games, raffles and special meals.
Charnley House also arranges many and varied outings to such places as Blackpool for fish and chips supper and the Illuminations, a canal boat trip on the Macclesfield Canal, Chester Candleworks, Stapeley Water Gardens and a 'Mystery Tour', which culminated at a local pub after a pleasant drive in the near by country side.
No one has to take part in the activities, and there is always a quiet area so that those who do not wish to be involved do not have to be.
