The Abbey Care Village set in the picturesque village of Scorton in the Richmondshire countryside, is one of the country's leading care facilities, offering an outstanding service in exceptionally well appointed accommodation.
Abbey Care Home is set within the 7 acre Abbey Care Village and is registered to provide nursing care, residential and personal care for up to 84 mainly elderly residents of which 69 of those require dementia care.
The location
The small picturesque village of Scorton is set in the Richmondshire countryside, which is not far from the main A1 North/ South main trunk road.
The Home
Abbey Care Home is a sympathetic mixture of modern purpose built care facilities complementing the sixteenth centery splendour of St Claires’ Abbey.
All our accommodation is in single rooms with en-suite facilities, providing our residents with a comfortable, inviting and private living space. We encourage our residents to bring in some of their own belonging to make them feel at home and to personalise their rooms.
Our Philosophy of Care
At Abbey Care Home we offer the highest quality care. Our staff are fully trained to deliver the highest standard of care, 24 hours a day, to meet our residents individual needs and aspirations, giving them the support and assistance with all aspects of day to day life.
Each of our residents received a pre-admission assessment prior to admission and an individual care plan is prepared with the resident and their family, which is regularly reviewed to ensure each resident receives the care they require.
Specialist Care
We provide 3 EMI care units, for our residents suffering from Dementia, we can also provide short-term respite care and holiday breaks, often proven effective as a stepping stone between hospitalisation and complete recovery or to enable prospective residents to find out whether our home is suitable for them. We also provide Palliative care.
Our philosophy with dementia care including those suffering from Alhzeimers is to provide residents with a stimulating environment, which embraces daily activities in safe and secure surroundings. We recognize that a resident with dementia has individual needs. A person’s behavour is often an attempt to communicate these needs and feeling and our staff understand this and help residents retain their sense of identity and self worth.
Our staff are trained to respond to the changes in our residents, as the dementia progresses, in a flexible and sensitive way. Importantly, assisting and explaining these changes with residents and their families.
With our Palliative care, we recognise the higher level of care our residents need and we offer expert medical care and support needed by both the resident and their loved ones at such a difficult time.
The Activities
There is a full programme of activities which include, Reminiscence activities, Games, Arts & Crafts, Music & Videos with some local outings, as well as being involved in community Social events.
Visiting arrangements are flexible so that the residents are able to see relatives and friends whenever they wish and all visitors are made to feel very welcome.
The Cuisine
We have an excellent choice of menus to take into account the needs and preferences of each of our residents and we only use good quality food to produce our nutritionally balanced meals, which still allow the indulgence of a slice of cake with afternoon tea!
Our Cost
As at April 2007, the fees charged are between £470 - £545 per week depending upon the levels of care provided and the room to be occupied.
